Please God, catch me!
When is the last time you took a really big risk of faith and asked a whole bunch of people to make that "leap" with you? I feel like I have done that and the ground is coming up on us real fast, but I can't tell if a "parachute" will open or not.
That is what I feel like tonight. We have prayed for over 40 days asking God to do specific, miraculous things in the lives of our neighbors. I believe He is answering our prayers. We have invited nearly 5,000 of our neighbors to worship with us tomorrow. And I believe many will--I just don't know if they will worship in our building or someone elses.
I wish they would come to our building -- probably more for selfish reasons rather than the amount of work their attendance would require of me. Perhaps my prayer needs to be: Lord, place your people right where you need them, regardless of what that does for me or Glenwood or the "Church of Christ."
It is enough to see the change of heart that You Lord, are making in our people as they pray for our neighbors. It is enough to finally take on a project that brings the body of Christ together and makes us stretch! It is enough that people who have been disengaged are getting excited about the church reaching out to our community. It is enough that You are alive Lord. It is enough that I am alive tonight and that You care more about my neighbors and church than I ever will.
P.S. -- If Lord, You would rather me smack the cold pavement of reality in a painful way, don't let me ever think I failed. Ready my feeble legs for more audacious leaps tomorrow. --bw

Soccer Stories
Grandpa, Alex wanted to make sure you knew that he scored a goal in last weeks game against the "Mean Green." I keep forgetting to blog about it -- but he did great. We had been talking about getting in "position" to score a goal by diagramming it on a little white board. When he scored the goal, it was just like we drew it up.
Then, on another play, he made a great pass to a teammate who scored a goal. It was a fun morning--really windy and sunny, but fun. Who knows what the next game will be like since five year olds play on their own terms. Isn't it amazing how close extasy and agony reside in the hearts of soccer moms and dads? bw

God's sense of humor
Wednesday night at church, one of the the singers on our worship team begged off of singing due to a raspy voice. I told him that would be fine and then boldly proclaimed that in 13+ years in ministry and even more singing before then, I had never missed singing because of laryngitis. Saturday morning, I woke up and could barely talk. So I rested my voice as much as possible in order to be ready Sunday. Sunday morning came and you guessed it, I couldn’t sing. I couldn’t talk much – but everyone who heard about my “boasting” sure got a kick out of what happened! Have a great day. bw

Prayer and Fasting
Our church has only two weeks left in our season of praying and fasting for our neighbors. Next week, we'll mail an invitation to 5,000 people inviting them to come and worship with us (see www.glenwoodchurch.com for all the details). It's been a good season of introspection and prayer.
As a family, we have committed to different kinds of fasts. Alex has been fasting from chocolate while mom and dad have given up sweets. Katy goes back and forth from fasting from chocolate strawberries (which she doesn't like:-) & chocolate nutri-grains (which don't exist:-). Today at lunch the kids meal came with a little sundae. When asked what kind of flavor Alex wanted, chocolate or strawberry, he immediately told our waitress, "Strawberry--because I'm fasting from chocolate." He said it matter of factly, just remembering his commitment to God. The waitress didn't quite know how to respond to that, but it surprised her.
Afterwards, we commended Alex for the way he has followed through on his commitment to God. His commitment really inspires us! What a blessing it is to see the way God uses our children to remind us to stay faithful to the commitments we've made before God. bw

Soccer Life
Soccer season is once again upon us. Alex is playing on the "Falcons" in the U-5 division for the last time. He's having a lot of fun playing with friends and keeping active. I'm having a blast just watching Alex (& Katy) live life!
This week, Katy wanted to come to practice. Since there are usually 3-5 siblings running around, we included everyone for a game of "sharks & minnows" at the very end of practice. This is the highpoint of practice and about the only thing we have as leverage over 8 energetic boys. I wish you could have heard the squeels of delight as we ran around the grass together. I use to think that playing soccer was mostly for Alex, now I'm convinced it's mostly for me. I don't want to miss out on all that fun!

Mike and Phyllis are now bloggers...
Hi Everyone! This is my first blog. I will have to show Phyllis how to log on.
We had an awesome time at Mammoth. Austin and Garrett have really gotten good and we skied the whole mountain. Blake is on a snowboard and kind of starting all over. But he is a fast learner and is doing great. We must plan a family trip there together sometime.
Sorry we missed the Birthday celebration. We will have to have a separate celebration with Mom and Dad.
