Florence

In Florence we stayed at a Youth Hostel which was a converted villa. This is the path up to the villa (lush and green = lots of mosquitos).
Our respite from the unusually hot weather was air conditioned restaurants! Garrett has to keep up his "pizza daily" in Italy! Mike and I enjoyed spliting a salad and pizza when possible : )
Austin enjoyed seeing the different kinds of vehicles available in Europe. All of them are much smaller than what we are used to here. And the Vespas! Watch out!!!
Michelangelo said these bronze doors (on the Baptistery across from the Duomo) were fit to be the gates of paradise. We had fun figuring out which bible stories are represented in each panel.
Thomas family on the Ponte Vecchio bridge.
Florence had the best gelato in Italy.
While Michelangelo's David is impressive and HUGE, I'm partial to the stud in yellow.
The reward for climbing the 463 stairs to the top of the Duomo is the spectacular view of Florence.
Our Youth Hostel Villa had a nice grassy area to play soccer, and a TV room to watch Euro2008. The only thing it lacked was air conditioning. So, while we wanted to keep the windows open to let in the breezes, we also wanted to close them to keep out the mosquitos. A dilema!
